Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor says our recent run of form is the result of a collective effort among the squad.

After losing the first two games of the Barclays Women’s Super League to Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively, City have been ruthless in both league and cup.

Wins against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL saw us score seven goals across the two games with no reply.

Meanwhile, a 6-0 hammering of Blackburn Rovers at the Academy Stadium kicked-off our defence of the Continental Cup in style.

City face newly-promoted Liverpool on Sunday with the game being broadcast live on CITY+ and Recast, and Taylor admits having strength in depth means we can change the course of the game from the bench if needed.

“I think when we have a fit and healthy squad you have different options in attacking areas,” he said.

“You have the pace of Hayley Raso, the creativity of Mary Fowler who can play in the nine position as well and scored a couple of goals the other night. There’s really good options up there that complement each other well.

“We always look at opposition and what we’re up against whether it’s space behind or between lines and how that allows you to select the players best for that game.

“Everyone is contributing well these last few weeks, we can only pick one team unfortunately but the game’s not won by the 11 players on the pitch, especially now with being able to make five changes makes a difference.

“What I’m pleased about with this group is we’ve never lost that goal threat when we’ve made changes.

“When teams are flagging, if you can bring on a Hayley Raso, a Julie Blakstad, a Mary Fowler or whoever, it makes it really difference.”
