Gareth Taylor says City's thumping 4-1 Women's FA Cup win over Manchester United provided the perfect belated birthday present.

City booked our place in the quarter-finals of the competition with a second successive Derby victory, thanks to a stunning second half display.

Quickfire goals from Lauren Hemp, Ellen White and Caroline Weir turned the tie on its head to cancel out Katie Zelem’s early opener, before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw sealed the win late on.

Taylor, who celebrated his 49th birthday on Friday, introduced impactful substitutes Weir, Hayley Raso, Julie Blakstad and Shaw, and expressed his delight at the manner of his side’s second 45 display.

“It felt great,” he told mancity.com. “We didn’t do ourselves justice in the first half. We were clear on that at half-time.

“We tweaked a few things and made a couple of changes and we were really dynamic in the second half, and turned the game around in literally 12 minutes.

“It was a good [belated birthday present]. We only had a couple of days training - Friday and Saturday - to prepare with players coming back from different parts of the world.

“All in all, we have to be pleased. It was a really professional performance and we’re really pleased to be through to the next round.”
