Gareth Taylor says City's Manchester Derby triumph was a great advert for women's football.

City claimed a crucial three points and the all-important bragging rights with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Manchester United, courtesy of yet another Caroline Weir wonderstrike.

A sell-out crowd at the Academy Stadium were treated to another sensational chip from the Scotland international, who made the most impressive of impacts from the bench to clinch victory.

Taylor was delighted to have secured a huge win and to have provided plenty of entertainment for the 5,317-strong crowd who braved the elements to witness a thoroughly pulsating contest.

“It was great,” he told mancity.com. “The support is fantastic and it’s a different type of game.

“When we played here last season, we won 3-0 but it felt completely different. It was great but to have supporters here - a full house with family and friends - is amazing.

“Derbies are always about who gets the bragging rights and fortunately for us, it’s us!

“It was definitely a great advert with the quality shown from front to back. You could go through the whole team. Everyone was top-class.

“I’m really pleased. We deserved that. It didn’t look like it would come but we’d controlled the game well throughout.

“Sometimes, you don’t always get what you deserve and sometimes, you get what you don’t deserve but I’m really pleased.

“I’m pleased for the players more than anything because they stuck to our principles and played really well.”
