City boss Gareth Taylor says the battle for Champions League football next season is all the incentive City need going into Sunday’s vital FA Women’s Super League derby at Manchester United.

Our penultimate game of the season sees City lock horns with our nearest rivals at Leigh Sports Village in a hugely significant encounter.

Second placed United are still vying for the title, trailing leaders Chelsea by two points.

City meanwhile are in fourth place, three behind Arsenal in third. However, with Chelsea playing Arsenal earlier on Sunday, the possible permutations at the top of the table are endless.

And for Taylor, the lure of finishing in the top three and so sealing European football next term is an even greater derby motivator and he says he will not be distracted by the earlier Chelsea v Gunners clash.

“We want to be in the Champions League. I am here to deliver the best,” the boss asserted.

“I have not paid too much attention to where it (Chelsea v Arsenal) sits. Our game is the final game (of the day). It is what it is.

“We know we need the three points and that’s what we’ll do.

“It’s about using what the game brings. There’s no need to instigate fire in their bellies in this one. That comes naturally.”
