Gareth Taylor says he was pleased to see Manchester City collect a point from a ‘difficult’ opening season assignment at Arsenal.

In what proved to be an enthralling encounter in the capital, the first meeting between the top-flight heavyweights lived up to the billing as they played out a 2-2 draw.

The hosts broke the deadlock through Frida Maanum’s early strike before Vivianne Miedema equalised on the cusp of half-time on her competition debut in sky blue.

As the pendulum swung in our favour, Jess Park’s stunning half-volley after the break handed us the lead, but Beth Mead’s late leveller ensured the spoils were shared.

And Taylor believes our first point of the term could be valuable on a day where we perhaps didn’t hit our highest standards.

“[I’m] disappointed because we had the game and couldn’t quite see it out, but I’ll take that on a day when we haven’t really been our best,” he explained.

“A little bit off it with the ball and without the ball especially, particularly in the first half. Just a little bit disjointed in our pressing and in our build-up play, a little uncertain.

“I understand why, it’s the season day opener on a massive pitch. A lot of expectation and probably a lot of anxiety as well.

“But when you take all of that away and come away with a point from a difficult first game of the season, I think we have to be fairly pleased given the circumstances around our play.”
