Gareth Taylor couldn't fault the effort of his players following our FA Cup exit against Aston Villa, but hopes we'll learn from the setback.

Rachel Daly’s strike in first half stoppage time proved the difference, as our FA Cup journey ended at the quarter-final stage.

Villa had taken the lead through Rachel Corsie’s deflected header, but City hit back before the break through Deyna Castellanos.

Taylor’s side were on the front foot for the majority of the second half, but were made to rue several missed chances at the Bescot Stadium.

Nonetheless, our attentions turn swiftly back towards a crucial Barclays Women’s Super League clash with Chelsea on Sunday 26 March, and Taylor is looking for a reaction following our cup exit.

However, he also expressed his personal pride at the effort his players put in against the Villans.

“I wouldn’t expect anything different from this group, they’re excellent in that respect,” he said.

“I spoke about how proud we are of the effort, again it’s taken extra time to be beaten which is frustrating, but we need to learn from it.

“We need to be tidier from some of the defending on our set plays because that’s the first time we’ve conceded a brace since the start of the season.

“And at the top end of the pitch [as well] but that never changes, we do so much work in that space. We could’ve had four or five tonight.”
