Gareth Taylor believes Manchester City took a ‘big step’ in our development following a crucial 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

In an enthralling top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table clash at Kingsmeadow, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s strike on 14 minutes proved the difference as we moved level on points with the league leading Londoners.

It was the latest highlight in a campaign which sees the Blues competing on three fronts approaching the business end of the season.

And the boss revealed he is continually impressed by his players’ ability to break new ground.

“I said to the girls previously ‘it’s a big step’. It’s a big step for us,” he explained.

“It was a tough game tonight. We knew we’d have some moments we had to suffer. I felt the team defended so well.

“From Khiara [Keating] up to Bunny Shaw. The players who came onto the pitch, I thought they were magnificent the way we defended and saw it out. The desire to see the game out.

“This team continues to push the boundaries. Today we made a big step.

“We’ve got eight games in the WSL now and we know if we pretty much win all those games we’ve got a fair chance of getting our hands on the title.

“But, of course, we’re a long way from that and there’s a long way to go. We go into an international break now and there are other competitions to look forward to, also.

“These girls have just shown such a determination and such togetherness that goes beyond anything I’ve seen previously.”
