Gareth Taylor is pleased with how Caroline Weir has stepped up her attacking output after the midfielder found the net on her 100th Manchester City appearance.

Weir came off the bench in our 3-0 Continental Cup victory over Durham, grabbing our second goal of the evening with an emphatic left-footed strike.

The Scottish international’s creative spark helped to break down the visitors’ stubborn resistance, and Taylor was delighted with the impact she made on proceedings.

The City boss reflected: “It was good from Caroline. We’ve challenged her to score more goals, we did it last season and she really pushed on.

“When she scores from those types of areas - we know she can score outside the box.

“But where we really challenged her is to be in there where it matters inside the box, getting onto second balls and finishing crosses.”
