Gareth Taylor says his team’s patience paid off in City’s dramatic 2-0 Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Leicester.

Despite the hosts’ dominance at the Joie Stadium, the match remained goalless entering the final 10 minutes at the Joie Stadium with a victory looking increasingly likely to evade us.

However, Lauren Hemp provided a moment of magic to break the deadlock inside 83 minutes before Chloe Kelly doubled our advantage with a venomous corner which flew directly into the net.

Although slightly harsh on the Foxes’ valiant defending, it was exactly what Gareth Taylor’s team deserved as we further strengthened our title credentials with three points.

And the boss stated his pride in City’s professionalism and versatility which helped secure the success.

“Patience is something we spoke about at half-time. Trusting the process was another one,” he revealed.

“It was so difficult because we planned for them still playing 5-4-1 in the second half.

“This goes to show really the level of the players that we’ve had a complete team talk about a completely different shape and they play 4-2-3-1 so now all of a sudden we have to beat the pivot.

“Fair play to the likes of Alex [Greenwood] and Laia [Aleixandri] and those intelligent players in there like [Yui] Hasegawa. They really transform the way we plan to do things.

“To be fair in the first half is more trying to create more spaces by our eight and 10 dragging out their centre backs going into Bunny a bit more direct more than we probably would be.

“[I’m] really pleased, the patience paid off. Sometimes you don’t get that opportunity but I liked the way we played second half.

“I liked the way we stepped up the rhythm. I thought Jess [Park] played a big part in that as well.”
