Gareth Taylor believes City’s first goal in our magnificent 7-0 win over Spurs gave us the impetus to deliver a clinical goalscoring display at the Joie Stadium.

A first-half Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw hat-trick followed by goals from Laura Coombs (two), Lauren Hemp and Jill Roord saw us record our largest victory of the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League season.

The Jamaican’s first arrived on 23 minutes when she ghosted into the box and headed into the net following Leila Ouahabi’s pinpoint cross from the left.

It represented her ninth goal in five appearances against the Londoners who were eight matches unbeaten coming into the match.

And the boss says we were hard to stop after we broke the deadlock.

“Yeah great result. Scored a lot of goals and the quality of the goals, I thought were top,” he explained.

“I think Laura’s first goal when she came onto the pitch was pure class.

“The build up play from the back, all the way through from one side to the other and to finish it off with quality.

“[I’m] really pleased, a lot of really good performances tonight and keeping the clean sheet was key as well.

“Once we got the first goal, we were quite a force after that.

“It’s hard to press relentlessly for 90 minutes, but when we did and regained our composure and went on the front foot you could see it almost carved out openings for us.

“[I’m] super pleased.”
