Manchester City Women's boss Gareth Taylor praised the City support following our 4-0 final day win over Reading which secured Champions League football for next season.

We needed to avoid defeat against the Royals to ensure European qualification, and got off to the perfect start when Lauren Hemp opened the scoring in Berkshire with a well-taken volley, before Bunny Shaw doubled our lead just before the half-time break.

Ellen White came off the bench to head home our third before Alex Greenwood scored a late penalty, securing third place in the Women’s Super League and our place in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

It hasn’t been the smoothest first season in charge for Taylor, who had to contend with an injury crisis which derailed any title aspirations.

But with European football secured, a Continental Cup win and an FA Cup final to look forward to next week, the City boss was grateful for the support shown to both him and the players by the City faithful.

He said: “We have really key supporters who have been with us through thick and thin.

“The way they encourage the players from start to finish, that’s the collective and that’s the club.

“(They) really stuck with us in difficult moments during the season and they’ve supported the players all the way.

“You cant ask for anything more.”
