Gareth Taylor says he loved the attitude of his players as they withheld a late barrage in our FA Cup fifth round win over Arsenal.

Laia Alexandrai smashed the only goal of the game in the 74th minute, which led to the Gunners taking a more direct approach to try to grab an equaliser.

The City defence stood firm, while goalkeeper Khiara Keating made some big saves, as we held on for a 1-0 win at Meadow Park to secure our place in the quarter-finals.

“When we scored the goal it was great, but we probably knew from then it was going to be direct football,” Taylor said.

“The players have been amazing this season in that space and we are really determined, and they see it as a real challenge.

“’Let’s protect what we’ve got’ and I love that. To get another clean sheet at a tough place like this is fantastic.”

It keeps City in contention for three trophies after we secured our place in the Continental Cup semi-finals with a win over Tottenham in midweek.

We head back to London on Friday night for a huge Women’s Super League clash with leaders Chelsea and the win over the Gunners will be a big boost ahead of the game.

“This win will bring big confidence,” the City boss added. “Before this we were nine games winning consecutively in all competitions, now it’s 10.

“We’ve come here in a tough FA Cup match and it’s more like a final or a semi-final and now we’re looking forward to next Friday.”
