Gareth Taylor hopes City’s home support can give his players a boost against Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

We welcome the Gunners to the Academy Stadium on Saturday 11 February, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 (UK).

It sees two of the league’s title rivals lock horns in what could prove a crucial WSL encounter, with a sell-out crowd expected.

Taylor paid tribute to the support his players have received from the stands throughout the season and explained how the fans can once again play an important role this weekend.

“We’ve seen it previously when we’ve had big crowds,” he pointed out in his pre-match press conference.

“When our supporters are behind us, as they always are, it’s amazing.

“We can use that; be calm in everything we do and try our very best.”

Club legend Jill Scott will also be in attendance on Saturday, receiving a framed shirt and lifetime season card ahead of kick-off.

A founding member of our first professional women’s side, the midfielder made just shy of 200 appearances for City before deciding to call time on her illustrious career last summer.

Speaking of her return, the boss said: “Jill’s an infectious character. I was with her last night at a charity event.

“It’ll be good for the players and for them to see her. She was a big character and a good player here and ambassador not just for the women’s game but here at City as well.

“It’s rightly deserved that she’s honoured before the game as a City legend.”
