Gareth Taylor has hailed the collective spirit of the City squad and believes everyone has a part to play both on and off the pitch.

In a pre-cursor to March’s Continental Cup final, victory for City in Sunday’s 12:30 (UK) kick-off would move us to within two points of the reigning FA Women’s Super League champions.

Unbeaten since mid-November, Taylor’s side travel down to Chelsea with a spring in our step, with an early-season injury crisis rapidly becoming a distant memory.

And while the City boss has expressed his personal pride at how the team negotiated that difficult spell, he has welcomed the difficult selection dilemmas he now faces ahead of every game.

Indeed, he has stressed that every player has an important role to pay this season whether that be in matches or on the training ground.

“It’s testament to the squad how everyone stuck together in that moment,” Taylor reflected on our start to the season.

“Everyone pitched in, sometimes not playing in their ideal role but understanding the paramount importance of the team.

“We don’t look on that lightly, we understand the importance of that.

“We have a situation where we have players competing and there’s real competition in the team whereas before it was needs must.

“The attitude and application has been spot on in that respect. Everyone has a role to play whether they’re on or off pitch. It’s something we’re doing really well at the moment.”

Next up at the Academy Stadium, it’s Derby Day! Gareth Taylor‘s side host Manchester United on Sunday 13 February (12:30).
