Gareth Taylor believes his players deserve huge credit for getting within touching distance of the Barclays Women’s Super League summit ahead of our clash with Chelsea.

City travel to the reigning champions and league leaders on Friday evening knowing a win would see us leapfrog Emma Hayes’ side into pole position.

It would also represent an 11th successive victory in all competitions, with Taylor’s side currently just three points off the hosts ahead of the 19:15 (UK) kick-off at Kingsmeadow.

For the boss, it’s an opportunity he believes the team fully deserve, and one that’s been the result of tireless work both on and off the pitch.

“It’s where we wanted to be,” the boss told the press ahead of Friday’s clash at Kingsmeadow.

“When you come into this stage and you have the opportunity to go within goal difference of the league leaders, that’s what we wanted.

“Great credit to the team and the team behind the team to get here.

“The players have stepped up, it’s great to be in this moment and we’re looking forward to doing a job on Friday night.”
