Gareth Taylor is proud of what his City side have achieved as he prepares to take charge for the 100th time on Sunday.

Our Barclays Women’s Super League fixture with Tottenham on Sunday 4 March will bring his tally of matches at the helm to a century – as we welcome the Londoners to the Academy Stadium at 14:00 (UK).

After re-joining the team he played for from 1998-2001 initially in the Academy set-up, he took the reins of our Women’s team in May 2020.

Since then, he’s guided us to Women’s FA Cup (2021) and Continental Cup (2022) glory and UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification last term.

Reflecting on his two-and-a-half years in the dugout, Taylor is pleased with City’s accomplishments so far.

“I think it’s been a successful period,” he said.

“We’ve had to deal with some natural things where you’ve got quite a few experienced players in your ranks who’ve been magnificent servants to this Club for a number of years, but eventually there comes a point where then comes to an end.

“I think that’s always a difficult process particularly with the lack of pre-seasons you have. I think the first season when I was involved in lockdown was the only proper pre-season I had and that was difficult.

“We had to bring in players in threes and fours but it felt more like a pre-season. A proper one where we had the team together, that was because there were no Olympics, a World Cup or Euros.

“From there on it’s been jam packed summers and then you throw into the mix and quite a bit of change in terms of personnel.

“The nature of the league, like I said previously, the margins are so tight and fine with 22 games. I think there’s been some real highs in there and testing times no doubt.

“But if you asked me what I thought the next two-and-a-half years would be like when I took the job we’d expect some highs and trophies, hopefully, which we’ve done and some challenging moments for sure.”
