Gareth Taylor believes a Continental Cup triumph could provide a ‘catalyst’ for a strong end to the season.

City are aiming to reach our second consecutive League Cup final on Wednesday 8 February against Arsenal – after lifting the trophy last term.

Not only did the success extend our haul of Conti Cups to four - it also sparked an eight-game league winning streak, seeing us climb into the UEFA Women’s Champions League places by end of 2021/22.

And Taylor believes retaining the cup could be used as a springboard to achieve our goals again this term.

“It was the catalyst for us last season, winning a trophy. [It was] really important, I think we won consecutive trophies in the past two seasons,” he said.

“No other team have done that apart from Chelsea so the levels to win these trophies is not easy, you have to do the hard yards.

“Last season, it was certainly the catalyst to go on a really incredible run after that to get into the Champions League and to get into another FA Cup final.

“The levels we displayed in that second half of the season were really high. I think the period we’ve been in now has been good since September.”

City are currently enjoying a 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions, stretching back to September 2022.

This has seen us firmly in the hunt for the Barclays Women’s Super League title and a UEFA Women’s Champions league place – while also seeing us progress into Round Five of the FA Cup and last-eight of the Conti Cup.

And Taylor is relishing the challenge of competing for trophies on multiple fronts.

He added: “[We’ve seen] really high levels from the team, good results and again we’re getting down to the business end of the season.

“[We have] 10 games left in the WSL, I think it’s an exciting moment being in the three competitions and looking forward to all of them.”
