Gareth Taylor has heaped praise on Jill Roord's leadership skills ahead of our crucial WSL trip to Chelsea.

The game at Stamford Bridge will kick-off at 17:30 (UK) on Saturday 16 November., with City a point clear of Chelsea having played one game more.

The two teams battled until the final day of last season, with only goal difference separating the teams at the end of a thrilling campaign.

And Taylor believes Roord has a huge role to play in this pivotal clash - and for the remainder of this season.

MATCH PREVIEW | CHELSEA V CITY

“I’ve spoken previously about Jill and said that I can’t speak highly enough of her because she’s such a dream to work with,” said Taylor.

“She’s slightly different to many of the Dutch players and we have three Dutch players and that has obviously helped her become more settled at the club.

“I’ve certainly seen her take on more of a leadership role this season. That was really difficult  last season because she missed the second half of the season through injury.

“What I love about Jill is that you have the conversation, you discuss the plan, whether that’s on the pitch or in rehab, she’ll ask questions - where do I fit in that - and then she just executes it really well.

“There’s a  total buy-in once she’s asked the questions she wants to ask in terms of how that affects her and where she can bring her talents.

“She just nails it. I’ve been really impressed. She’s a warm character, she’s now taken she’s on the leadership role and taken the armband off Alex at Hammarby the other night and brings a calmness and assuredness to the team.

“She’s so calm and assured in everything that she does and other players gravitate towards that.

“She’s been a real dream to work with and the way she recovered from her injury, what we’re trying to do now, we have to manage her in the right way because we’re trying to push her.

“We want her to be there as much as we can but we understand she can’t play every single minute of ever game, as much as I’d like to.

“Managing that is difficult for us but I think we’ve done it really well so far.

“She’ll be an influence whether she plays or not, whether she comes from the sides or not.

“She’s a top professional which rubs off on all the players that we have.”
