Gemma Bonner says Manchester City relish testing themselves against the best the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) has to offer as we prepare to lock horns with Arsenal.

Two of the WSL’s perennial title challengers meet at the Academy Stadium on Sunday 13 December, when some of the best talent in the country will pit their wits against each other.

The league’s all-time record goalscorer Vivienne Miedema, as well as the in-form Jill Roord and Caitlin Foord, will line up against Gareth Taylor’s side, who go into the game four points behind the Gunners.

It is a stern a test as they come in the WSL, but Bonner believes such a challenge will bring out the best in City.

“I think as players, you want to be playing against the best players in the world,” she said.

“You see the league now and we’ve got the best players coming to play over here in England and for us, that’s what we want.

“You are getting challenged week in, week out, no matter who you are playing against and Arsenal have got world-class players all over the pitch.

“I think they’re such a good team and I think we almost thrive on playing the best teams and the challenges that they face. It almost brings out another level in us.”

Bonner also discussed the importance of finishing strongly before the Christmas break, adapting to Taylor’s style of play and the unsung heroes in the City squad.
