Gemma Bonner says signing a new contract with Manchester City was an easy decision because she wants to keep improving and playing with some of the best players in the country.

The 28-year-old defender has agreed a two-year deal, which will keep her at the Club until the summer of 2022.

With a new manager in Gareth Taylor, Bonner believes this is an exciting time for the women’s team and says the disappointment of finishing second to Chelsea on points-per-game last season, will serve as motivation for the new campaign.

“I came into the Club wanting to be better,” she said.

“From the player I came in to now, I’d say I’ve improved. I’ve really enjoyed the past two years.

“I’ve probably played my best football, with the best players around me, so I want to continue on that journey and keep improving every day.

“Now we’ve got a new manager that’s come in, it’s a fresh time for everybody. It’s also an exciting time when something new happens.

“There’ll be challenges ahead, but I think as a Club we are always expect to win trophies and be successful.

“We’ve got a squad that’s full of winners and that will only spur us on into next year and beyond.”
