The Manchester City forward started in the final as Canada beat Sweden in a dramatic penalty shootout to claim the top prize for the first time in their history.
One month on and Beckie admits her achievement is yet to sink in, but, having turned her childhood dreams into reality, she is in no doubt as to where it ranks in her list of accomplishments.
“I think in my career, in terms of trophies, this is definitely number one,” she told mancity.com.
“A gold medal at the Olympics is something I have dreamed of since I was a young kid – [I was] not even sure what sport it would be at that time.
“To have won bronze and now for Canada Soccer to have gone back-to-back-to-back on the podium is incredibly special.”
The pinnacle of sporting achievement, Olympic gold was a landmark moment in Canada’s sporting history.
It has been a long journey for 27-year-old Beckie, who is adamant her international success would not have been possible without the support of her club.
“I feel so much pride playing for City, she added.
“It has quickly become a place close to my heart and I can’t really imagine playing for any other European club.
“It has been absolutely pivotal in getting me here as a player.”
