Jill Roord has paid tribute to Manchester City’s medical staff after making her return from an eight-month injury absence.

The Netherlands international was a second-half substitute during Gareth Taylor’s side’s hard fought 1-0 win over Brighton at the Joie Stadium as we recorded our first Barclays Women’s Super League victory of the term.

It represented her first outing since January’s 2-1 Continental Cup victory over Manchester United where she ruptured her ACL.

But following a meticulous rehabilitation plan coinciding with her relentless commitment to recover, the midfielder was back on the field earlier than anticipated.

And she has hailed the work of the Club’s medical team for their help in bringing her back to full fitness.

“It was really good [to build up to a game]”, she explained.

“The past few weeks have been really nice anyway, training with the team and it was really good to be around the team and be on the bench and come on.

“Everybody is really happy for me and obviously I’ve worked many months with the medical staff so I’m also very thankful towards them.

“It’s been hard but also really good and I’m just relieved to be standing here right now after playing today and I’m excited for the next weeks, months and season.

“Already the first time in the first half I kept warm [on the sidelines] and the reaction was amazing and I didn’t expect that so it was really nice.”

“When Viv came to me and I came in, I felt maybe a little emotional. [It was] just an exciting moment but once I was on the pitch I was fine and felt normal.”
