Kerstin Casparij believes she’s settled into life at Manchester City well following her summer arrival from FC Twente.

So much so she was a pundit on our coverage of the Ballon d’Or ceremony with Shaun Wright-Phillips.

And the defender revealed on the show she’s already been working hard to learn Mancunian phrases!

The Netherlands international was one of seven new arrivals at the Club in pre-season, with Casparij’s switch representing her first taste of English football.

But she explained how she’s seamlessly transitioned to life in her new surroundings, which includes picking up new words and phrases from her new team-mates.

“[Setting into Manchester] has been great. I’ve been here two months and I’m trying to work on my ‘Manc’ accent! ‘Buzzing!’” she said.

“I get compliments on it sometimes from the girls, but I’ve been settling so nice and I’ve been loving every minute.

“To see the similarities we want from the men’s game and our game and what we try to achieve, it’s just so exciting and I’m just very, very happy.

“[The weather] is similar to the Netherlands. The first thing everyone says is ‘the weather’s very bad’.

“I’m like: ‘I’m from the Netherlands, it’s not that far the Spanish girls will have more trouble!’ It was raining the other day and they were in their jumpers and long things, and I was just in my shorts and shirt.

“It hasn’t been that bad though, it’s been alright. I think when it’s December, talk to me again probably.”

The summer of 2022 saw a number of new faces arrive at City, with some longstanding members of the squad also moving on to pastures new.

With this in mind, Casparij is aiming to bring in a new era at the Club, with the first step in that process coming last weekend as we recorded our first points of the season by sweeping past Leicester at the CFA.

Goals from Khadija Shaw, Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa helped us record a 4-0 success over the Foxes.

And the 22-year-old was delighted by the manner in which we kickstarted our season.

“[We signed] lots of girls my age in their early 20’s and we’re really just rebuilding again and rebranding as a team,” she added.

“Also with a lot of experienced girls going out with Keira Walsh, Lucy Bronze, Ellen White and Jill Scott retiring, so a lot of big names going out. We’re trying to be the new era and getting City to new highs.

“That’s just very exciting to work on.

“We’re really happy as a team as well. We didn’t have a great start but I think yesterday made up for all of that. To have my first home game and the first home game of the season, it was just so exciting.”
