Kerstin Casparij says City have room to grow as a team following our late 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The Etihad Stadium played host to our third of four consecutive clashes with the London outfit and, despite City taking the lead through Kerolin Nicoli, second-half goals from Aggie Beever-Jones and Erin Cuthbert earned Chelsea the points.

But the Dutch international was still proud of the performance put in by an injury-hit City squad, in what was our third encounter with Chelsea in eight days.

And Casparij is confident there is still more to come from City in the final few weeks of the season.

“We should’ve walked away with a minimum of a point but I’m really proud of the team, I’m really proud of us and the way we’ve turned it around these last few games,” said Casparij.

“They’ve been hard games in a short span of time with a small squad. Everyone puts their best effort in so I can only be proud of the girls.

“There’s real progress and we can be so proud of that. There’s so much room for us to grow as a team and individuals but we want to walk away with the win.

“As much as we’re proud of the improvements, we still want to win so to not do it today is frustrating.

“Obviously, the next game being another one against Chelsea is funny but having another game in three or four days is good, it keeps us in the rhythm and in the flow of playing and also doesn’t let us dwell on this loss for too long.

“We have a 2-0 aggregate, to hopefully extend so it’s all to play for [on Thursday] which helps us keep going.”
