After Naomi Layzell opened the scoring with her first-ever senior goal, the Jamaican doubled our advantage with 13 minutes remaining to provide a combination of jubilation and relief.
It followed a period of sustained visitors pressure which was consistently met by heroic rearguard action to protect our slender lead.
And the Jamaican says her third goal in the competition this term arrived at the perfect time in the heavyweight European bout.
“I was going to take the shot early but as I lifted my head up I saw the keeper already on the floor,” she explained.
“I decided to take my touch around her and try to slot it and put it back where it was coming from. If I kicked it a little bit harder, the defender probably would’ve gotten it.
“I just took the touch around the defender, lifted my head up and put it back where the defender was coming from.
“We had a lot of chances in the first half but we just couldn’t convert them and we spoke about it at half-time that it was just a matter of time as we were applying pressure and giving a lot of energy and effort at the top end of the pitch.
“It was just about trying to get that goal to calm the nerves and it came at a good time and I think it definitely helped the team stay calm, pull back our composure and get our feet back in the game.”
