Laia Aleixandri has expressed delight after scoring her maiden City goal in our emphatic 5-0 win over Bristol City.

Following Jill Roord’s opener at the Joie Stadium, the Spain international doubled our advantage midway through the first half with a glancing header from a pinpoint Alex Greenwood free-kick.

It represented her first for the Club since her summer 2022 switch from Atletico Madrid and the resulting shutout is our second in the Barclays Women’s Super League across our first three outings in 2023/24.

And Aleixandri says she’s pleased to open her account in sky blue as well as being buoyed by our start to the term.

“I feel very happy to score my first goal with this team and also the way that we won this game at home, so I’m very happy,” she declared.

“She [Greenwood] is always doing great crosses so [it] gave me my opportunity to score so I’m very happy.

“That [clean sheets are also] very important for us, I think it’s a good way to win matches and to achieve our goal of keeping a clean sheet. I’m very happy for that reason as well.

“I think it’s [the season so far has] been really good. We’re trying to focus on going match-by-match and trying to win all the matches so I think it’s important to have this mentality going forward.”
