Laia Aleixandri believes Manchester City can be buoyed by our showing in the Subway League Cup final despite our defeat to Chelsea.

Nick Cushing’s side narrowly missed out on the first major honour of the season, losing 2-1 to the Londoners at Pride Park.

Having trailed at the break in the showpiece, we deservedly equalised through Aoba Fujino’s vicious effort with just over 25 minutes remaining.

Although we created a number of chances following the leveller, Sonia Bompastor’s side restored their lead late on when a cross deflected off Yui Hasegawa - sending the ball into the net.

For Aleixandri, it was a tough loss to accept in the wake of a strong performance against a side who are yet to taste defeat in 2024/25.

“Of course today is a difficult day for us as a team because we had an opportunity to win a trophy, but I’m really proud of the girls,” she declared.

“I think we put everything into this game. We’ll review the game because we want to be even better, that’s the most important thing.

“We believe in everyone in this team. We just need to trust the process. I think we’re in the right way to win important things.”
