Laura Coombs believes Gareth Taylor can make her a better player as she hailed her relationship with the Manchester City boss.

The 30-year-old midfielder had to wait patiently for her opportunity during the former City striker’s first season in charge, but went on to feature 24 times in 2020-21, scoring three goals in an impressive spell before Christmas.

Coombs has started both of City’s opening games in the new campaign and admits she loves working with Taylor, a coach who has given her the confidence to go out and perform.

“I felt really good under Gaz since last pre-season,” she explained ahead of City’s Women’s Champions League fixture against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

“I just needed a chance to get a run of games. I got that and I felt really confident under him. I know what he expects of me, he makes it really clear and it makes it really easy to work with him.

“We have a good relationship and I think I can improve even more under him moving forward.”
