Manchester City’s deadline day signing Laura Wienroither says she ‘can’t wait’ to be back out on the pitch with Vivianne Miedema.

The defender has joined the Club on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Arsenal.

It was at the Gunners where Wienroither and Miedema first played together from 2022 to 2024, with the duo winning the League Cup in back-to-back seasons.

But, after both players suffered ACL injuries within six months of each other, it was their time away from the pitch where Wienroither and Miedema really bonded, becoming close friends who supported each other on their journey back to full fitness.

Now both back in action and chasing silverware, Wienroither is excited to get to play alongside Miedema once again.

“I stayed with Viv [Miedema] after my surgery, she took me under her wing,” began Wienroither.

“She [Miedema] took care of me when I needed help so we created a really, really good relationship.

“She always knew that she can count on me and I can count on her. And that hasn’t changed since she left [Arsenal].

“So I’m grateful that we can play together again, she is an unbelievable player – I think you all know that – and she is a great person so I can’t wait to be with her again.”
