Lauren Hemp claims her sublime scorpion kick finish in City’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City was a moment of pure improvisation.

City took it to the wire, unable to net the opening goal in our Barclays Women’s Super League clash until the England international’s sublime 82nd minute strike.

Hemp’s phenomenal effort squeezed past keeper Lize Kop into the bottom right corner after the Foxes continued to frustrate with valiant defending - providing euphoria to the home support inside the Joie Stadium.

But the skilful winger was humble in her post-match interview after helping the hosts to an eighth straight victory in all competitions.

“I just didn’t really want to use my right foot to be honest!” Hemp exclaimed.

“I don’t know I think it hit around here (points to calf) but whatever it was it trickled in. A goal’s a goal!”

Three minutes later, Chloe Kelly scored a spectacular goal of her own to extend our advantage.

The England international scored directly from a corner to help secure three points and move us top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

And Hemp paid tribute to her countrywoman and explained the importance of City’s second goal following full-time.

She joked: “She’s trying to take my limelight isn’t she?!”

“The type of ball we wanted into the box was one to the back post and she managed to do that without anyone getting their head on it.

“It was a cracking finish and not the first time she’s done something like that. It relaxed our nerves a bit which was important.

“We’re really confident, it’s been a heavy few weeks,” added Hemp when talking about eight consecutive wins.

“We’ve got good vibes in training and everyone’s spirits are really high.”
