Lauren Hemp believes City have taken a major step forward since the start of the season ahead of our first home match of 2023.

Gareth Taylor‘s side welcome the Villans to the Academy Stadium on Saturday 21 January, with kick-off scheduled for 11:30 (UK).

Our most recent encounter with Carla Ward’s side was on the opening day of the season, with City falling to a 4-3 defeat in the West Midlands.

However, that setback now seems like a distant memory on the back of a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash.

And while Hemp is expecting a difficult assignment against Aston Villa, she believes City are more than capable of maintaining that recent purple patch.

“[Aston Villa] had a busy January transfer period and signed some fantastic players, people I’ve come up against and have played with at England as well,” the winger said.

“It’s going to be a tough game, we know that, but we’re ready for it and will make sure we give them a good battle.

“Obviously it was unfortunate, the result at the start of the season, but we’re going to make sure we put it right.

“We’ve improved so much and really kicked on. It’s important we continue that run of form and we get the result we want to.”
