Lauren Hemp says her equaliser in Manchester City’s comeback Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Aston Villa in the arrived at an ‘important’ time.

Having trailed at the break after the Villans broke the deadlock through Gabi Nunes, the England international grabbed a deserved equaliser just past the hour with a sublime lob over Sabrina D’Angelo.

The skilful winger then played a crucial role in the hosts’ second at the Joie Stadium when magically weaving past tackles before teeing up Jill Roord who slammed home.

The win extends our unbeaten run to nine straight matches in all competitions, which includes eight triumphs and seven consecutive wins.

And Hemp says the messaging from Gareth Taylor and his staff at half-time provided positive encouragement as we fought back from a goal down after the interval.

“It was a good ball from Leila [Ouahabi] and the goalkeeper managed to get her hand on it. It was just about trying to direct it and keep it in the box,” she explained.

“I managed to do that with my head and I knew the goalkeeper was off her line so I just tried to hook it over and find [the net].

“It was important we got that early in the second half. “[The message at half-time] was all very positive.

“We had created quite a few chances but I felt we were sloppy on the ball at times and we were straight in and put that right in the second half.

“It was all about creating chances because at some point it would break.”
