Lauren Hemp has praised City’s ‘relentless’ attacking performance in our strong 4-1 Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Brighton.

Gareth Taylor’s side moved level on points with league leaders Chelsea with a tenth-straight league victory.

The England international opened the scoring midway through the first half at Broadfield Stadium when her poked effort beat Sophie Baggaley before Mary Fowler doubled our advantage on the cusp of the interval.

We continued to push in the second half where Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Laura Coombs extended our advantage – rendering Lee Geum-Min’s stoppage time strike a consolation for Mikey Harris’ side.

Only goal difference is keeping City from the WSL’s summit – with our quartet of strikes in West Sussex meaning we are only two goals behind Emma Hayes’ side.

For Hemp, the win also provided a source of satisfaction as we avenged our 1-0 WSL defeat to Brighton in November’s reverse fixture at the Joie Stadium.

“I thought we were relentless,” she declared.

“We were unfortunate to concede close to the end as goal difference is going to be important to compete up there at the top of the league.

“It’s obviously nice to get a bit of revenge as well, because the result didn’t go our way against Brighton last time.

“It was important we bounced back today and put a statement out to the rest of the league and I think we did that by scoring the four goals.”
