Gareth Taylor’s side visited Prenton Park in search of our 12th straight league win and aiming to continue our relentless pursuit of the division’s crown.
Although neither side created any clear-cut chances during the opening 20 minutes on Merseyside, a clinical eight-minute period by the visitors midway through the first half helped us on our way to three points.
Lauren Hemp broke the deadlock when Jess Park’s initial effort was saved into the path of the former who coolly slotted low into the net.
Fresh from her delightful derby double the week before, Park then rounded off a aesthetically pleasing team move moments later when she weaved into the box and fired past Rachel Laws via the post.
Then, in an exhilarating period from Taylor’s team, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw unleashed a thunderbolt into the top corner from 25-yards after skipping past the onrushing Gemma Bonner.
The Jamaican then doubled her personal tally for the afternoon and extended our led further after the break when she met Mary Fowler’s inviting corner before heading home.
City were every bit as good as their lead suggested and Taylor Hinds’ unstoppable individual strike before the final whistle did little to dampen sky blue spirits.
With Chelsea out of league action due to their participation in the Continental Cup final, we have moved to the WSL’s summit after collecting three precious points.
