“I’ve worked hard my entire career to make myself the best player I can be,” she told mancity.com.
“To (win) any award, whether it’s in the (FIFA FIFPRO) XI or as the best player in the world, I’m just truly honoured and grateful.
“I wouldn’t say I’m motivated to have my name on a trophy or up to have my name in lights, but I am motivated to be the best player, to be the best right-back in the world.
“I worked hard at England to get my spot off Alex Scott back in the day, and she was the best right-back in the world.
“I saw that as a challenge and something that I wanted to do. I’m motivated by wanting to be the best in my position and in what I do. I just enjoy that competition.”
