Gareth Taylor‘s side extended our 100% record in this season’s Champions League group stage with a professional 2-0 win at the Joie Stadium thanks to goals from Lily Murphy and Kerstin Casparij.
Following a goalless first half where the visitors defended valiantly, it took only 10 minutes after the restart to break the deadlock and it was winger Murphy on her full senior debut.
Aoba Fujino darted into the area and slid an accurate ball across the goalmouth before the blisteringly quick winger tapped into an empty net.
It was a moment of pure jubilation for our Academy graduate who signed her first professional contract earlier this month.
After taking the lead, the hosts didn’t take our foot off the gas and we doubled our lead through Casparij’s strike which was also her maiden goal for the Club.
Japan winger Fujino again broke into the box and teed the ball into the defender’s path who tucked home to all-but secure the points.
It means we enter our final Group D assignment with Barcelona at the table’s summit ahead of the seismic showdown in Spain.
