Nick Cushing says community is the lifeblood of the Club ahead of a special nod to City in the Community at Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League match against Everton.

A special matchday takeover has been organised in honour of the Club’s charity, which will see the players warm up in CITC branded tops and donating them, alongside the matchday’s worn shirts, for fundraising.

Cushing also met youngsters from a Soccer Schools and Premier League Kicks coaching session ahead of Sunday’s 13:00 (UK) kick-off, led by the charity’s degree students.

For our Interim Head Coach, this weekend is another example of the crucial role and relationship that Manchester City and the local community share.

“It’s really special, and for us to have a game with the women’s team dedicated to our local community is really important to us as the team,” he said.

“I’ve been here a long time, from training back at Platt Lane, our Club is the community club of Manchester, it’s the lifeblood of our team.

“To dedicate the game and get out into the community, I went to a local school, it’s special and I really enjoyed this week.

“We just want to make sure we can deliver the performance for our community this weekend.”

Standing in City’s way this Sunday are an Everton side looking to build on a decent run of form in the WSL, which has seen the Toffees move well clear of relegation trouble.

After our FA Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Manchester United last week, Cushing spoke about the importance of a win against the Toffees, and he’s been impressed by the players’ reaction this week.

“This week has been a real positive because we’ve had a chance to look at how we can get our levels back up.

“That’ll be the same going to Leicester, to have that time and to concentrate on developing and making sure we can get that level back. It’s been a huge positive.

“It’ll be difficult, we’ve watched a lot of their [Everton’s] games, the analysis department have given us a clear plan of what to expect.

“We know they’re difficult on the counter attack and will try to hit us on the mistakes we make and get us in transitions.

“We have to make sure we control these moments.”
