A founding member of our first professional team, the 38-year-old began her role on Tuesday, and will start by working behind-the-scenes while immersing herself into a number of departments.
It follows her obtaining a Master’s degree in Sports Directorship, which she studied during the latter stages of her career.
For the Boss, her return to City marks an important stage in the expansion of the women’s game, and he’s relishing the chance of working alongside her.
“It’s great. When we speak about people like Jill and Karen. I think those guys are huge ambassadors for the club. To be able to keep their experience and their knowledge is really key for us.,” he said.
“I’ve spoken to Karen about this and I’ve spoken to her about the role and I’m hoping to spend more time with her. I’ve said I will help and support her in anything she needs.
“But we need people like Karen. We need people who are really going to fight to get the highest standards we can in the women’s game.”
Evidence of growth within the game across the past six months is clear for all to see.
Just months after England’s won EURO 2022, City are set to break our women’s attendance record at the Etihad Stadium for the Manchester derby in December.
Our league clash with Manchester United on December 11 promises to be a great occasion.
However, Taylor admitted Bardsley’s new role won’t be straight forward, but he has full confidence in her ability to aid the Club’s progression.
Taylor added: “It’s not an easy job, far from it, I’m sure Karen would be the first to tell you that. But she will find that.
“I think we have someone in there who has a great knowledge of the game and a real understanding.
“She has been a player up until last season so she gets it, if anyone can help us take us to the next level, whether that be on or off the pitch, commercially, as an organisation in general, I think we have a good chance with Karen being there.”
