Nick Cushing says his desire to win trophies with Manchester City hasn’t waivered following his return to the Club.

The first head coach of our professional women’s team, he guided the Blues to six major trophies during his first spell which ran between 2014 and 2020.

Now approaching the second month back in the dugout on an interim basis until the end of the term, Cushing is preparing us for a seismic FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United at the Joie Stadium on Sunday.

Although he’s anticipating a difficult challenge from Marc Skinner’s side, Cushing stated his aspiration to reach what would be a third FA Cup final under his stewardship.

“From my experience it’s pretty unique. Manchester United are coming here above us as the holders of the [FA Cup] trophy,” he explained.

CITY V MANCHESTER UNITED | MATCH PREVIEW

“I didn’t experience that [in my previous spell] although I thought Casey [Stoney] was doing a top job when I was competing against Manchester United.

“They’re Manchester United, right? They expect to win trophies. I have huge respect for Marc, I did when he was the Birmingham City manager and when he went out to Orlando he did a top job.

“He’s a real high-level coach. I expect a really difficult game.

“For us, we have a huge desire, it’s really difficult for me to dilute my expectation and my expectation is that I want to win trophies for City Women.

“I expect a difficult game, but I have a huge desire to progress.”
