Manchester City is proud to support the Rainbow Laces campaign which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and promotes equality for everyone in football, regardless of their sexual orientation.

The Premier League’s campaign runs over the next two rounds of fixtures, with City showing our support when we face West Ham United and Aston Villa over the next seven days.

And as part of Manchester City’s rainbow laces celebrations, Gareth Taylor’s side was set the task of painting our Club crest using the colours of the rainbow before they set off for the Women’s International break.

After donning the artists’ apron and getting the paintbrushes ready, the team shared their thoughts on the importance of the campaign, and why football should be a community for everyone to feel comfortable in expressing who they are.

The overlying theme of this year’s rainbow laces campaign is ‘Lace Up, Speak Up’, focusing on the idea of allyship and speaking up for the LGBTQ+ community.

With this in mind, the players were also asked why supporting the LGBTQ+ community, even if not identifying with it yourself, is such an important concept.
