Esme Morgan, Laia Aleixandri and Laura Coombs discuss the impact that periods can have on their performance, and the importance of supportive activewear ranges.

Manchester City worked alongside PUMA to ensure our Women’s team switched to burgundy shorts in October 2022, helping players feel more comfortable while on their periods.

It was a ‘good step forward’, as described by manager Gareth Taylor at the time, but period pains are still a significant obstacle for female players to tackle each month.

Activewear ranges like the PUMA x Modibodi collaboration, with absorbent briefs, thongs, shorts and leggings, are just one key innovation which is working to reduce that impact.

In partnership with PUMA and Women’s Health, Morgan, Aleixandri and Coombs opened up about the positive environment which exists in the squad around acknowledging and chatting about periods.

Often still considered a taboo subject, the City trio each highlight the importance of those discussions, and the allowances the players make for each other… until they step out onto the pitch!

They also explain the different effects their time of the month can have on them personally, before explaining the impact that both Manchester City’s shorts colour change and the PUMA x Modibodi range have made on them and their team-mates.
