Nick Cushing was left feeling 'really proud' following City's 2-0 win in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea.

Cushing, who was returning to the home dugout at the Joie Stadium for the first time following his return to the Club as interim head coach was delighted to see his players put in a performance for the fans.

An impressive second-half brace from half-time substitute Vivianne Miedema saw us record an strong win against the 2021 finalists.

Everyone stood tall across the pitch with Ayaka Yamashita pulling off numerous impressive saves, while Miedema and Kerolin Nicoli were constant threats on the break.

With over 3,000 fans packed inside the Joie Stadium, Cushing was pleased to send them home happy, ahead of another bout against the Blues on Sunday.

“They’re a top team, their league position reflects that and they were unbeaten before tonight,” he said.

“We knew we’d have to dig in at times and knew we needed to be a threat in different moments of the game.”

“I’m really proud of the performance.

“We’re at home so we want to be a threat in every moment whether we’re defending or in possession.

“For me, it’s about making sure our fans are proud of our performance and we have the belief we can go and win against anybody.

“You saw the Barcelona game and tonight was no different.”
