Cushing has urged his players to take confidence from their two-legged defeat to Chelsea, and wants them to be the side progressing in the Champions League next time.
It was a whirlwind of a start to the game with Chelsea coming out of the blocks firing, knowing they must overturn a two-goal deficit at Stamford Bridge.
That’s just what Sonia Bompastor’s side managed to do with Sanyd Baltimore setting the tone with her thumping effort whizzing past Khearing Keating after 13 minutes.
The Blues then added a second and third in five first-half minutes through Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez to put them ahead on aggregate, which is how the tie ended.
“You have to take confidence in the fact that they’ve got a whole squad full of world-class players,” he said. “And we’ve had the bad luck of many injuries to our key players and our senior players.
“We have to take the confidence and the positives that we’ve run this team very close and given them many problems.
“But also, we’ve got to look at where we can improve and so that when we return to this competition at this stage that we can be the team who progresses.”
