New signing Ruby Mace believes Manchester City is the best possible place to maximise her potential.

The promising 17-year-old joins Gareth Taylor’s side from fellow Women’s Super League heavyweights, Arsenal, who she had been with since youth level.

Making her debut for the Gunners in September 2020’s FA Cup North London derby, Mace went on to enjoy a successful dual registration spell at Birmingham later on in the season.

While she admitted that the decision to leave Arsenal wasn’t taken lightly, the versatile defender is excited about what the future holds for both herself and City.

“It was a very difficult decision for me and my family (to leave Arsenal)”, Mace conceded.

“But I believe the platform that Manchester City have put down for me brings me out as a player to be the best that I can be.

“Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now, I’m so happy and so excited to start this new journey.

“I can’t believe it and I’m so grateful to everyone around me who’s believed in me and got to this point.”

Capable of playing at the heart of defence or in midfield, our new signing believes she can bring something new to Gareth Taylor’s side.

However, she also insisted that, at just 17, she’s always keen to learn and improve with advice and examples set from her more experienced teammates.

In terms of her personal goals for her debut season, Mace hopes to become a key cog in City’s well-oiled machine and is willing to put the work in to achieve that.

She revealed: “I’ve set myself (the target) to prove to Manchester City that I’m good enough to be in our starting XI.

“Even if it takes me a year or two, I want to prove that I am good enough in the future.

“That’s my dream, to get into the starting XI and I’ve just got to work my way there.

“I’m a very creative player, I like to go forward with the ball and I like to go forward a lot.

“I think I’m a very unique player, I’ve got a different style to other people but I do pick up tips from other players and do see what they do and try to fit it into my own style.”
