The classy engine room enforcer has become Andrée Jeglertz’s side’s first January signing, with the United States of America international penning a deal which will keep her at the Joie Stadium through to the summer of 2029.

She arrives with a sparkling reputation in the game after captaining her former side Portland Thorns to the 2025 NWSL Play-Off semi-finals, being named in the Best XI for a third time in four seasons in the process.

Coffey has also enjoyed plenty of success on the international stage, namely winning Gold at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Often at the base of midfield, Coffey established herself as one of the finest operators in world football due to her combative and intelligent displays both domestically and internationally.

And she believes her attributes will complement City’s playing style well.

“From what I have seen, the team has done such an amazing job of being possession orientated and truly trying to play and build out and keep the ball in a way which is really unique,” she detailed.

“Their playing style is so clear and ever since Andrée has come in, his style of play and principles have been made really clear, and I can see myself fitting into that really nicely.

“I always want to be a midfielder who is looking to get on the ball, helping the team get out of tight pressure situations, helping unlock high press moments.

“To join a team who is so proficient in that, and who loves to problem solve in that way and use the impeccable technical ability of the roster to really be able to do that was something I was immediately attracted to.”
