In 2018, Manchester City launched the Same City, Same Passion campaign, which focuses on promoting women’s football by demonstrating that the same skills, same excitement and same passion exist wherever a ball is kicked. One of the first moves was to merge our social channels, providing supporters with access to all things City from one place.
As the Club celebrates International Women’s Day, that message serves as a timely reminder to both celebrate the progress in attitudes towards women in football, but also to continue the push for further improvement.
At Manchester City we are committed to inspiring the next generation of female footballers across the world and, with this in mind, Same City, Same Passion has once again set to work on making that ambition a reality by relaunching its campaign to send young girls across the globe a free PUMA football.
To demonstrate the incredible uptake of the initiative and the appetite among young girls wanting to get into the beautiful game, all available footballs were snapped up within 24 hours.
For Sunday 5 March’s Barclays Women’s Super League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, City also wore a unique IWD kit, inspired by Mancunian Emmeline Pankhurst.
The centre circle of the Academy Stadium spread that Same City, Same Passion message ahead of kick-off in the encounter, with both Pep Guardiola and Gareth Taylor also joining forces to inspect the artwork and pose for a photo on one of the training pitches at the City Football Academy.
