Shaun Goater says it’s been a joy working with our Women’s team so far after becoming a permanent member of Gareth Taylor’s coaching staff.

As first revealed by the boss in January, the City legend had been helping sharpen our forward line on occasion, with ‘The Goat’ on hand to offer his expert advice.

Now, though, he has been recruited to the backroom team for the remainder of the season as we remain firmly in the hunt for the Barclays Women’s Super League title.

And Goater explained how he’s enjoying coaching some of the ‘best players in the world’ as we approach the business end of the campaign.

“It’s been such a joy, it’s been a real treat, because the girls are typically some of the best in the world,” he said.

“It’s a real joy to work with them. In particular, Bunny’s been doing really well so it’s just [about] giving her one or two little tips to add to what she’s already been doing.

“But also to the knowledge and information Gareth’s been giving.

“For me, it’s been more specific because Gareth is thinking about the team as a whole and I can come in as a striker, as a centre-forward.

“[I can say] ‘in this position here, and the ball’s over here – consider this type of movement, being in this blind spot of the defender to come in and show.’

“Just giving little tips like that.”
