Despite a battling City performance at Pride Park, we suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Chelsea as the Londoners claimed the first piece of silverware this term. 

Although City arguably started the brighter side, Sonia Bompastor’s team broke the deadlock against the run of play through Mayra Ramirez.

Although Chelsea protected their lead until the interval, the Blues were arguably on top, carving out the better opportunities and we carried our momentum into the second half.

Aoba Fujino then equalised with just over 25 minutes remaining with a viciously dipping effort which crashed into the back of the net to level the scores. 

However, as the match entered the closing stages, Bompastor’s team restored their advantage when a cross unfortunately deflected off Yui Hasegawa and past Ayaka Yamashita.
