City captain Steph Houghton says extending her stay at the Club was one of the easiest decisions she has had to make.

The England international joined City ahead of our first ever professional season in 2014 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Club, lifting every domestic honour in the process.

And after recovering from an ankle injury sustained on international duty in September, the 33-year-old has looked back to her best in recent victories over Brighton and Leicester respectively.

Speaking to mancity.com after agreeing her new deal, Houghton believes there is still plenty to come from both herself and City moving forward.

“I’m delighted (to sign a new deal), once the talk started there was always going to be one answer and for me it was the easiest decision I’ve ever made to commit my future to this football club,” she said.

“Wow, eight years, it’s actually flown by! Ultimately, it’s always been about being at City, being a part of this Club for now and for the future.

“That’s why I wanted to commit and show that I’m a loyal person to my team, my Club and to the people who have helped me along the way.

“For me it’s about improving every single day, if I was to stand still there would be no point in me playing.

“It’s always about trying to better myself in different areas and the older you get it’s about choosing those areas wisely and for me I have so much more development.

“I have the right manager to dot hat but also the right players around me to keep pushing and have the confidence in me to still continue to be one of the best.”
