Steph Houghton has hailed Khiara Keating’s start to the 2023/24 campaign.

Keating has been impeccable between the sticks since earning her starting place from the West Ham game onwards.

We’re unbeaten across our opening four league matches with wins over the Hammers, Bristol City and Leicester and a dramatic 1-1 draw with title holders, Chelsea.

The 19-year-old stopper, who has been nominated for October’s WSL Player of the Month and also earned a full England call-up, has certainly played her part.

“[Look at ] the start of the season that she’s had, to be able to grab that No.1 jersey and perform how she’s performed at the age of 19,” said Houghton.

“If you know Khiara away from the pitch, she’s an unbelievable girl.

“She’s so funny, absolutely crazy and great for the group.”

Keating wasn’t the only one who was up for an award across the month of October.

Boss Gareth Taylor was also in contention for Manager of the Month while Lauren Hemp was nominated for Goal of the Month after her finely-flighted drive on the opening day.

Watch Houghton discuss the nominations, alongside coach Shaun Goater, on our latest Matchday Live show.
